Online social networking has taken the internet by storm. The rising popularity of social networking sites has attracted users both young and old. What?s more is that these sites are now being used for more than just socializing. Businesses both big and small have found these online communities to be very effective for marketing purposes.

No matter what your motivation may be the key to your social networking starts with posting an effective online biography. Most social sites require that users post a little information about themselves.

These profiles are basically used as ?filters? by site members to determine common interest they may have with any member whose profile they may be viewing. It is important therefore that you put a little thought into the short bio you post on the site.

Whether your goals are for business or social purposes you want to be able to connect with other members who best fulfill your intentions or needs.

Let?s now look 5 key elements you should include in your online biography that will make your interactions at any of the social networking sites all the more effective.

Adopt a Unique Avatar

Most every site has ?default? avatars that can be used by the members. Take the time and thought to change this. You want to make yourself noticed and not blend into the crowd so the best start is to choose your own avatar.

Personalize Your Avatar

When selecting the avatar that you want to represent you it is ALWAYS best to simply go with your picture. People can better relate to a picture rather than a symbol or cartoon character. Remember these are ?social sites? where you?re interacting with real people so be a real person yourself by posting your own picture.

For those of you who are perhaps a little ?shy? or possibly part of the Witness Protection Program you can select a ?character? that may best reflect you or your personality.

If your intentions at the site are business your avatar can be something that relates to your line of work.

Keep to the Facts

The short bio you post does not necessarily have to be complete but it should contain nothing but facts. Regardless of your intentions by immediately ?drifting? away from the truth in your bio you are starting out on the wrong foot. If you intend to create something meaningful from your membership you are not going to be able to do that by ?building your foundation in the sky.?

Remember once you?ve compromised your own credibility it takes a lot of effort to restore it if you even can. By lying up front you are ALREADY wasting your time and that of others who attempt to interact with you. Be nice, be truthful, or be gone!

The Bio Outline

Your bio should be brief but it will need to contain certain information in order for it be effective for you.

Let?s look at 2 different types of bios and what we should include in them:

1) Personal ? this type bio is for the purpose of socializing. You?ll want to include a little about your background, personal interest, beliefs, and any other ?experiences? that may be relative to who you are.

2) Business ? your bio information here should be more detailed and include what your business is, what you have to offer, any experience relative to your line of work and what your business goals are.

No Selling

If your social networking is for the purpose of business restrict the use of any hard sales pitches within your bio. Nothing will turn people away quicker than being met with ?in your face sales tactics? while viewing another members? profile.

Online social networking can be a very effective means in which to conduct business. Originally established for the purpose of serving as social hubs, online communities now cater to both personal and professional needs. What you need to keep in mind is not to overlook the importance of the bio you post. This is usually the other members? first impression of you. By focusing attention on the 5 key elements that we spoke of above you will insure that your first impression will be accurate and hopefully favorable but certainly not misleading.

With Sunday's win, Louisville holds a 17-3 advantage in the all-time series with Villanova.

Louisville has a 17-4 record this season at Jim Patterson Stadium and is 172-65 (.725) all-time in the ballpark, which opened in April 2005.

With three runs in the first and two more in the second, Louisville is outscoring its opponents 54-5 in the first inning this season and 80-19 in the first two innings.

The Cardinals are 13-3 this season when scoring in the first inning.

The Cardinals improved to 20-0 this season when leading after the seventh inning.

As a team, the Cardinals are 51-of-61 on stolen bases this season, while their opponents are just 18-of-29.

Sunday marked the 19th time in 28 games this season Louisville has finished with 10 or more hits, while last season, they achieved that total just 16 times in 61 games.

In the four games this season, Louisville pitching allowed just four earned runs in 36.1 innings pitched for an ERA of just 0.99.

In the Cardinals' six BIG EAST games, they have an ERA of just 1.50 with 69 strikeouts in 54.0 innings pitched.

With his two stolen bases on Sunday, sophomore Ty Young is 9-for-9 on stolen bases this season.

Overall, Young leads the Cardinals in hitting this season at .413 and is third on the team with 19 RBI.

Junior Nick Ratajczak finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and reached base with two HBPs.

Ratajczak leads the team with 31 runs scored and in HBPs with 10 and is hitting .391 overall this season.

Along with his 2-for-4 performance at the plate, senior Stewart Ijames had two RBI for his team-leading 10th multiple RBI game of the season.

With his 2-for-4 outing on Sunday, sophomore Cole Sturgeon leads the Cardinals in hitting through the first six BIG EAST games with a .476 average (10-for-21). He also has seven RBI in conference action.

Overall, Sturgeon is hitting .348 this season with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored.

With his 0-for-3 day at the plate on Sunday, freshman Zach Lucas had his 12-game hitting streak halted.

Despite Sunday's outing, Lucas is hitting .392 this season with 15 RBI and extra base hits in 13 starts.

Marketing and public relations are both used to improve business performance, but they use completely separate approaches. Marketing is a commonly used term, but confusion about what public relations actually is usually sees it neglected when it comes to small business marketing ideas.

Public relations is about forming relationships with clients and potential clients. It's about raising a business's credibility and reputation amongst these groups, culminating in additional clients and raised profits. Marketing is not about credibility, but getting a business's name out to prospective customers or clients. The most well known type of marketing is advertising.

How public relations and marketing experts each deal with newspapers highlights the variation between them. An advertisement in a popular newsp`per read by a target market would be considered by a marketing professional. He pays the newspaper and can say what he likes with the area he has paid for. The purpose of this is for people to see the advertisement and purchase the product or service on offer.

A public relations manager on the other hand would use a different technique. The editorial information the newspaper covers would be his focus. This would include everything written by journalists and guests. His focus would be to get his company featured in these editorial pages.

This direction would be used to maximise the reputation and credibility of the business, because sources used by the media are instinctively seen as experts among future clients. This also raises earnings as people prefer to do business with those they percieve as experts.

Another difference is in the direct marketing space. The marketing manager may send out regular fliers to letterboxes from a local builder offering his services. The aim of this would obviously be to bring in more work for the builder.

The PR approach here would differ. A public relations manager may produce a regular newsletter for the local area full of useful advice for those looking at building. This would demonstrate that the builder knew what he was talking about, raising his reputation and credibility. This would also be designed to bring in more work directly and in the future.

These examples highlight the significance of both marketing and PR. Marketing lets potential clients know about products and services. However public relations is just as vital, if not more so, to demonstrate that the business is credible and its people are experts. In a hard market, this is essential as potential clients become fussier with their choice of service provider.

This can all seem extremely confusing to small business owners, and PR companies are not always great at explaining it. But what I have just explained is the difference in a nutshell. Marketing is for exposure and PR is for credibility, although it also creates exposure.

PR is frequently believed to be expensive. This usually sees it overlooked among small business marketing ideas. Major PR companies who have prominent corporate clients are the ones who bill the huge dollars.

But by learning how the media works and what journalists need, small businesses can seize their slice of the limelight. They can also put together a low cost regular newsletter that will do wonders for their credibility and reputation.

The importance of credibility and reputation mean that PR should be a priority when it comes to small business marketing ideas. This can be handled by either a 'do it yourself' approach, or by bringing in an independant consultant on occasions.

Game of the Week: Mario Kart 7 | Video Games, Reviews, Features ...

This week, we?re taking a look at one of 3DS?s first big successes. This entry in the much-loved karting series retains all the shell flinging, banana dropping pandemonium that has made the games so popular. This is a given, of course, but there have also been some tweaks and new additions to prevent any stagnation of this magic formula.

My favourite of these is the concept of kart customisation. After selecting a character, you will move on to a garage of sorts. Here, you create your vehicle by choosing a kart body, set of wheels, and a glider. You start the game with a small selection of these, earning more options by collecting the coins that have returned to the racetracks. There isn?t an extensive range on offer, but certainly enough for some experimentation. As ever, the racers are divided into weight classes, which have a natural effect on their statistics. With the customisation mechanic, you can enhance these abilities, or offset weaknesses. All in all, this is a great way to inject a subtle layer of strategy to proceedings.

The tracks themselves have undergone changes too. Gliding sections and underwater sections make their much-publicised debut. When passing over a special type of turbo pad, your glider will emerge. You?ll float back down to earth, adjusting your descent as you go for extra speed. Diving underwater, meanwhile, sprouts a small propeller from the back of your kart. The action slows a little in this state, but not so much as to be jarring for the player. Both of these changes begin and end automatically, and hardly prove to be the intrusive misstep some feared. Indeed, one of my highlights of the game comes from gliding around some of the new tracks. Control feels great here, and some of the visuals from on high are a treat. Providing, of course, that you get a second to enjoy the scenery. This is particularly apparent in Rainbow Road.

The online system is quite impressive too, for Nintendo?s tentative approach. It?s based on Mario Kart Wii?s system, with a great degree of extra connectivity and functionality. There are time trial ghosts from around the world to compete against, with a full complement of seven at once available. Also, a streetpass encounter with another player enables you to later join their online races effortlessly. Such improvements are great to see in a series like this, where the majority of players will spend most of their time online. I?m hoping for further refinements in the inevitable Wii U installment.

As a long-time fan of the series, I preferred Mario Kart 7 to any of the previous entries. The core gameplay is as enjoyable as ever. The new air and sea mechanics fit seamlessly into the experience. Furthermore, these two factors are backed up by some great new tracks and returning favourites. I do share some player?s gripes about the cast of unlockable characters, but with a polished package like this it seems churlish to let such a minor issue mar the experience.

SUGAR LAND--March 30, 2012--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Tokyo Electric Power Company Incorporated (TYO:9501) (Tokyo) (TEPCO) has been at work on the clean-up of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant for more than a year. TEPCO has called on the Japanese government for $12.15 billion in aid for meeting its costs. In addition to this new government motion, TEPCO is in the process of paying damage compensations to affected citizens and businesses throughout the region. On March 16, TEPCO applied for $10.27 billion in aid to pay for new claims on compensation. If approved, the total for TEPCO's compensation bill alone will reach $41.31 trillion.
